Sociology

Our Aim: Sociology is the study of societies and our aim to help you question, interpret
and understand society today.

You need to:

Be an independent learner.
Be self motivated.
Be prepared to question things.
Look at the world in a different way
Have five or more GCSE's at A* - C including ideally a B grade in English.

Sociology A Level will prepare students for a range of careers or university degrees including teaching, social work and social policy.

Student study a range of topics including:
Families and Households, Education, Sociological methods, Religion, Theory and a Synoptic paper on class, gender and ethnicity.

A wide variety of teaching styles are used including small scale research, discussion, DVD's, Powerpoint presentations, group work and individual study. There are also opportunities to go on field trips to Harewood House and The National Coal Mining Museum as part of the synoptic unit.
